Baldivis Volunteer Fire and Emergency service crews have stocked their station with essential food and supplies for a family barbecue day after receiving a $500 gift card from Coles Baldivis.

The donation is part of Coles’ commitment to provide $3 million in donations to regional and rural fire brigades, to say thank you for their efforts fighting devastating bushfires across the country this summer.

The Baldivis Volunteer Fire and Emergency crew act as first responders for all fires in the Baldivis area and are responsible for more than 35,000 locals.

Baldivis Volunteer Fire and Emergency captain Neil Chaplin said this bushfire season had been extremely busy and his team of more than 65 volunteers were thankful for the support from Coles.

“Thanks to the donation from Coles Baldivis we can buy dinner for a family night and supplies for the volunteers, which we usually pay for ourselves,” he said.

“The team give up time with their families to go out and give back to the community so receiving this recognition from our local Coles has been great.”

Coles’ Baldivis Store support manager Kieran Woods said the donation was granted as a sign of appreciation to the volunteer firefighters at the Baldivis station.

“Our local firefighters are always the ones on the scene and help save lives and houses, so we thought it was important to be able to give something back to them,” he said.

“Our team is pleased to give back to the firefighters who have made – and continue to make – such an enormous contribution to our local community.”
