West Coast and Hawthorn have agreed to a deal for Tyler Brockman, with the Eagles sending two late picks to the Hawks in exchange for the small forward.

The deal was approved by AFL House on Saturday, with West Coast parting with a third-round selection (currently 44) and a fourth-round pick (currently 63).

“We were keen on Tyler in his initial draft year so it is very pleasing to have this deal done that now brings him to the club,” Eagles list manager Rohan O’Brien said.

“Doing the deal at this stage means that Tyler can be here for the start of pre-season and he has certainty as he prepares to bring his young family home.”

Brockman, 20, requested a trade back to WA earlier this year after 20 games and 23 goals in three seasons at the Hawks, having been drafted with pick No.46 in 2020.

The Subiaco product picked West Coast over Fremantle because of his prior relationship with the club as well as his close friendship with forward Liam Ryan.

Brockman also believes the Eagles are the best place for his young family, having welcomed twins with his partner late last year

Fremantle tried to convince Brockman to head to the Dockers by offering a four-year deal as they looked to replace Lachie Schultz who could make his way to Collingwood this trade period.

The Dockers had shown prior interest, but Brockman was adamant the Eagles are where he wants to play his football going forward.

West Coast had publicly stated they were open to walking the out-of-contract Brockman to the pre-season draft if a deal could not be reached, with the Hawks understood to be wanting pick No.36 while the Eagles didn’t want to offer any more than No.43.

Brockman is the latest addition to the Eagles after they signed Greater Western Sydney ruckman Matt Flynn on a three-year deal as an unrestricted free agent last week.

The Eagles have made significant changes to their list, delisting Greg Clark, Connor West, Luke Foley, Samo Petrevski-Seton, Xavier O’Neill and Isian Winder, while stars Luke Shuey, Nic Naitanui and Shannon Hurn retired.
