With the power of Telethon on their sleeves, Roy Hill’s fours rowed their way to victory in the 2023 Rowing WA Corporate Regatta on Saturday, after Rail Systems Australia took out the eights earlier in the day.

Crews from Roy Hill, RSA and Bellevue Gold, most of whom had never rowed before, had been training for weeks in the lead-up for the event, which played out in front of a great atmosphere outside the Swan River Rowing Club in the Canning River.

Fat Cat watched on from the shore as the the crews went at it, with the striking Roy Hill rash shirts crossing first in the final race of the day.

The specially-designed rash shirts had the striking Telethon pyjama print on the arms, with the front and back of the shirts representing Solaris Cancer Care, the National Breast Cancer Foundation and Movember.

Earlier in the day, one of Roy Hill’s two eights teams were pipped in the A Final of the eights, with Rail Systems Australia romping away.

Only two of RSA’s crew had any rowing experience prior to the pre-race training block.

“It’s been six weeks of training, we had a great experience ... we’ll be here next year,” they said.

Roy Hill’s other team took out third place with victory in the eights B Final over Bellevue Gold.

The event was broadcast live, free and on demand on Streamer.
