The rest of the NRL has been put on notice with Broncos coach Kevin Walters declaring star five-eighth Ezra Mam has “only scratched the surface” after the young gun signed a mega contract extension that will keep him at Red Hill until 2029.

Mam, who just turned 21, dominated in his first full season in the NRL, scoring a breathtaking hat-trick in the grand final that had the Broncos on track to win their first premiership since 2006 before Penrith mounted a sizzling late comeback.

The Dolphins had been interested in the five-eighth, with clubs desperate to lock in quality playmakers on long-term deals given how valuable they are in the current market.

The Broncos Academy graduate has scored 24 tries in just 38 appearances and has formed a potent partnership with veteran Adam Reynolds, who has allowed the five-eighth to play his natural game.

Mam was under contract for 2024 on a deal worth roughly $250,000, but the new deal is a major upgrade, with the future rep star reportedly set to earn triple that amount per season.

Brisbane’s next job is to extend Reynolds for another season, while they’ll do everything in their power to re-sign Reece Walsh before he hits the open market on November 1.

“Ezra is a born-and-bred Bronco and it’s great that he is staying where he belongs,” Walters said.

“He is an exciting player but he also likes to get in there and do the tough stuff and to do what needs to be done for his team.

“We have only scratched the surface on what ‘Ez’ can do – we’ll keep on working with him to improve his game and I can’t wait to see what we can achieve together over the years ahead.”
