Cam Green: Cricket Australia confirm WA all-rounder dealing with minor ‘lower back injury’ at IPL

Cricket Australia have confirmed Cam Green is recovering from a minor lower back injury after the WA all-rounder failed to bowl in his opening game of the IPL season overnight.
In his first appearance on a multi-million dollar deal with Kolkata Knight Riders, Green made 18 from 10 deliveries batting at No.3 but did not feature with the ball in a high-scoring loss to Mumbai Indians.
When Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane was asked why he had not called upon Green as each of his other bowlers went at run rates above 10 per over, he replied: “A question you need to ask Cricket Australia.”
A Cricket Australia spokesperson said Green “has a lower back injury which is being managed but requires him to abstain from bowling for a short period.”
“Cameron is currently rebuilding his bowling loads in India with a view to return in around 10-12 days’ time,” they said.
“KKR has been communicated with and is fully aware of this information.”
In November 2024, Green underwent major back surgery which sidelined him from bowling for nearly a year and ruled him out of the enterity of the 2024-25 home summer.
His comeback to all-rounder duties was not seamless, being sidelined for a One-Day International series against India in November last year due to side soreness, but he was able to send down 61.5 overs throughout a five-Test Ashes series.
Green was sold to the Knight Riders at December’s auction for a record-breaking sum of around $4.15 million, but will only collect just under $3 million due to a cap on the earnings of overseas players introduced by the BCCI last year.
He is playing alongside Perth Scorchers star Finn Allen, who marked his first IPL appearance by smashing eight boundaries and a pair of sixes in a brisk 37 from only 17 deliveries, at Eden Gardens.
