The City of Rockingham’s Performance in the Park joins the Alcoa Children’s Festival on the cancellation list in anticipation of severe weather from ex‑tropical Cyclone Narelle this weekend.
The City of Kwinana made the call on Wednesday to cancel the Alcoa Children’s Festival scheduled for Saturday at Calista Oval in the interest of community safety.
The massive festival usually attracts about 20,000 people.
And overnight, the City of Rockingham decided to cancel the Performance in the Park which was set to feature impressive giant flying puppets
The event has been moved to Saturday, April 18, at the Baldivis Sports Complex at 4.30pm.
BOM is forecasting between 10 and 45mm of rain in Perth on Saturday and damaging wind gusts exceeding 90km/h, depending on the movement and development of ex‑tropical Cyclone Narelle.
A City of Kwinana spokesperson said the decision was made in the interest of community safety and wellbeing.
“Due to extreme weather, it is not possible to safely deliver the event, with many rides, activities and marquees unable to be installed or run in high winds or extreme rain,” they said.
“The safety of our community, staff, vendors and performers is our highest priority.
“We understand this event is highly anticipated, and the cancellation is disappointing for many families.
“We thank the community for their understanding and ongoing support.”
This comes after the Duncraig Adventure Hub in Joondalup was postponed on Wednesday.
