AFL: What deals will get done today?

It was a busy opening day of the trade period, with Zach Merrett’s shift from Essendon to Hawthorn headlining player action that included mooted moves for Jesse Hogan and Scott Pendlebury.

But there’s plenty up in the air as we get into the swing of the week on Day 2.

Stick with us throughout the day as we take you through all the news and developments!

Genious or disaster

Love affair

Richmond and the WA clubs are building quiet the relationship.

Marshall stalemate

The Saints want pick 14 from Geelong for ruckman Rowan Marshall.

However, the Cats are holding it in reserve in case they can make a play for Swan Nick Blakey.

The standoff could force Geelong to make a deal with West Coast for Gryan Meirs to get another pick to give St Kilda.

Or, the Saints are happy to have Marshall stay at the club.

An interesting situation to watch over the next few days.

Dockers tracking Humphries

The Dockers don’t need to add much to their list but stars always come in handy.

And Joe Brierty has told Trade Radio they are tracking Geelong’s Lawson Humphries.

The WA product is contracted and happy but may look to return home in the future.

“I think he is very happy at Geelong, and contracted at the moment…he is talented and a Western Australian, but he and his management have been clear…in the future if he was looking to come back to WA we would entertain that,” he said.

Why Tigers wanted O’Driscoll

Richmond executive general manager of football talent Blair Hartley said O’Driscoll was “hungry to take his game to the next level”.

“At 24, he will complement what we have on the list and bring a skill set that suits the way we want to play with his running power and ability to cover the ground at a high speed,” he said.

“He is a quality young man, and we are excited to see him playing on the MCG in the yellow and black next year.”

Dockers list boss David Walls said O’Driscoll “was keen to seek opportunity elsewhere for his AFL career”.

CONTRACT LATEST: Flynn signs on

It was revealed yesterday, but West Coast have now made it official: Matt Flynn will be back next season on a one-year deal.

“I’ve loved my time over the last three years at the club, my partner and I have fallen in love with Perth and I was excited to sign on,” Flynn said.

“The club is in a really exciting position with so much young talent coming through and I can’t wait to watch that grow again over the next 12 months.”

Eagles list manager Matt Clarke said Flynn “continues to have a strong influence on our group”.

“He brings a team-first mindset every day and consistently drives standards through his preparation, professionalism and commitment to the club,” Clarke said.

“We believe Matt has plenty of strong football left in him and we’re excited about what he can continue to contribute over the next 12 months.”

Rejected

Adelaide key defender Nick Murray remains at the Crows after a trade offer from North Melbourne was knocked back.

Murray fell down the pecking order this season but with Adelaide already losing Jordan Butts in free agency, they want him to stay.

The Roos reportedly have offered him a healthy contract to come across.

DOCKERS TRADE

We have our first trade of the day!

Nathan O’Driscoll is off to Tiger Land for pick 61, a fourth rounder, according to Callum Twomey.

The deal got done very quickly with the winger surpless to requirements at the Dockers.

He is likely to get a lot more game time at Richmond which would have been a major factor in getting the deal done over other clubs.

‘Love to have him’

New North Melbourne coach Jaymie Graham has revealed he has already had a chat with Zane Duursma who wants to be traded.

He said he “would love” for the young midfielder to recommit and while he didn’t go into details about the conversation you would think he pitched him a role in the new set up.

Graham also said the game plan would not replicate what Fremantle do after he helped the club to a grand final.
