AFL: Fremantle are heavy favourites in western derby 62 but can Willem Duursma follow in Harley Reid’s footsteps and spring an ambush in his first clash against the Dockers?

The men in purple are boosted by the returns of Hayden Young and Michael Frederick while former Pie Mason Cox will debut for the Dockers.

West Coast have lost Deven Robertson and Jack Graham to injury but superstar Elliot Yeo and Milan Murdock replace them.

HT: West Coast 20, Fremantle 42

Fremantle established themselves in the second half of that quarter after West Coast briefly stole the lead.

The Eagles are in the contest but just lack the finishing class needed to impact the scoreboard.

The Dockers are also big up forward and it’s causing all sorts of headaches for the young Eagles defence.

Luke Ryan is cleaning up along half back and launching strong forward thrusts.

Jordan Clark is also imposing himself and it started with some monster tackles that saved goals.

West Coast lead the clearances by one despite Jackson dominating the ruck.

Lesson learnt

Voss has learnt his taunting lesson after Harley Reid gives away a 50-metre penalty.

The umpires paid a mark that was less than 15 metres but the young Eagle didn’t play the whistle and it cost him.

Clark makes the most of the penalty with his first goal of the season and Voss rubs it into Reid.

But this time he doesn’t touch him like when he got in trouble for rubbing Tom Petty’s head against Melbourne.

Tipping disarray

For all you tippers out there, Melbourne just took down the reigning premiers!

It was a very close game again which hopefully bodes well for this derby.

Booos

Mason Cox has drawn boos from the Eagles fans after taking a towering mark in defence.

The Dockers have put three on the Eagles in no time but all the metrics say the Eagles are in this contest and had they kicked straight, would be well in front.

Waterman is starting to influence but can’t buy a goal.

Growing in confidence

Fremantle get the lead back and it was after a strong marking contest from Amiss.

He has grown in confidence in the last three weeks and he beats Brock easily.

The shot is straight and it is a settler for Fremantle.

First goal!

Lindsay gets his first AFL goal after a left-break from the footy on the goal line.

Harley Reid wins some space with a don’t argue and handballs to Duursma who blazes away.

Duff-Tytler knocks the ball down and Yeo gets it centered where Lindsay wonders forward and finds space for a rushed shot that bounces through.

Breakthrough

The Eagles finally land a blow as Yeo snaps through a goal.

It comes off the back of another repeat entry after Waterman kicks a fourth behind.

It was a poor kick out from Clark but the Yeo gets to the spot to crumb the kick back in and celebrates with Harley Reid.

Ryan’s ride

Both sides have shot themsleves in the foot by missing shots but it hurts the Eagles more as they are behind in the game.

The good news for them is when they hold the Dockers up, they look like they are a chance.

However, give Murphy Reid and Shai Bolton space and the Dockers will have a field day.

Treacy and Amiss look good in attack and Ginbey has his hands full.

Murphy Reid leads all-comers with 10 touches while Luke Ryan has eight.

Odd numbers

Fremantle are dominating the disposal numbers but West Coast have had more inside 50s.

However, they have been mostly wasted with long high balls in. The Eagles have missed three chances they should have kicked though.

There is some intensity in the contest at least with Fremantle having to fight hard when they can’t break away with speed.
