Nepal-Tibet floods live updates: Missing Aussie woman Cara Severino found alive in Nepal

Another Australian who is still missing after the devastating floods in Nepal has been identified as man Michael Hayley.

Mr Hayley’s sister, Karen Haley, posted a message to Instagram, saying time feels “suspended” while she waits for news about her brother.

“While our hearts are carrying the unbearable weight of not knowing, we are holding onto hope & praying for a miracle,” Ms Hayley said.

“He travelled to this sacred part of the world on a journey that held such deep meaning for him.

“Come home to us, Mike. You are loved beyond words.”

The number of people who have died in Nepal since Wednesday morning has risen again to 547 on Friday evening.

977 people are still missing.

Chinese authorities are reporting that five people have died in Tibet.

The International Red Cross says approximately 93,000 people have been affected by the disaster and are in “great need”.

Internation Federation of Red Cross and Red Cresent Societies head of Nepal delegation Davis Fisher confirmed the number and said some affected areas are still accessible only via helicopter.

17,000 children are in need of humanitarian assitance, according to UNICEF.

Chinese state media is reporting another glacial fall has been detected on the Nepal-Tibet border.

Wednesday’s floods were caused by a glacial fall, which wreaked devastation across the border.

The second glacial fall caused 50,000 cubic metres of ice, water, and debris to fall into the barrier lake which threatened to burst earlier on Friday.

Chinese state media is reporting that the risk level for a barrier lake which had formed on the Nepal-Tibet boder has decreased.

Earlier today, emergency services reported the lake, which had formed on the convergence of two rivers out of mud and debris, could result in a second catastrophic flood.

The lake is now emptying, with water now “flowing out naturally, with the outflow discharge exceeding the inflow discharge”, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

“Compared to the high water level in the early morning on August 27, the lake’s water level has dropped by around 10 metres and the risk is gradually decreasing.”

The death toll on the Nepali side of the affected border has risen to 489, local police are reporting.

Chinese authorities also say five people have died on the Tibetan side.

China’s leadership has conducted a meeting in Beijing on Friday to prepare the country’s emergency response to the disastrous floods in Tibet and Nepal.

Chinese state media Xinhua is reporting China is in the process of “scientifically (formulating) search-and-rescue plans” and “make every eddort to search for missing people from China and abroad”.

Nepali police say the death toll has risen again to 477 on Friday, and 977 people remain missing.

The number has spiked since we reported 469 people were missing earlier today.

3,253 people have been rescued in Nepal.

The friends and family of Reshma Patel, a Newcastle woman who is missing in Nepal, have pleaded for information after they lost contact with her on Wednesday.

Ms Patel, 46, was at the immigration office on the Tibet-Nepal border on August 26 about “10 minutes before the impact”, Chin Valsan posted on Facebook.

“She was travelling back home after visiting the Kailash Mansarovar temple. She was with the Isha foundation pilgrimage group,” Ms Valsan posted on Facebook.

“If anyone has seen Reshma, has travelled with her, has information about her whereabouts, or has any contacts with local authorities, hospitals, rescue teams, tour operators, or pilgrimage groups in the region, please contact the family immediately or notify the nearest police authority.”

An Australian tourist has been found alive in Nepal on Friday, after devastating floods swept through the country’s north which has killed 469 people.

It is believed 26-year-old Cara Severino was hiking in the Langtan National Park with “some other Nepalese hikers” when the floods crashed through the region on Wednesday.

She was able to make contact with her parents, Debbie and Frank Severino, on Friday morning according to The Age.

“We understand that (the hiking group) are attempting to reach Kathmandu on foot. We eagerly await more information about her safe return,” her parents told The Age.

“We praise God that she has been able to make this brief contact with us.”

Ms Severino’s location has brought the total of Australians missing in the floods’ aftermath to 38.
