Burswood sex attack: Police investigate after two men drag woman into bushland

Detectives are investigating a shocking attempted sex attack overnight in which two men dragged a woman into bushland near Crown Casino before fleeing when she screamed for help.

Police say a woman in her 40s was walking along Glenn Place in Burswood when two men dragged her into bushes adjacent to Kagoshima Park Lake and tried to sexually assault her about 9.40pm on Tuesday.

The woman screamed for help and the two men fled the area and ran in the direction of the Crown Casino complex.

Perth police officers and Perth detectives raced to the scene where they spoke to the woman and gave her first aid.

The woman’s horrific ordeal is now being investigated by officers from the specialist sex assault squad.

No arrests have been made so far.

Police spent Tuesday night and Wednesday morning scouring the scene for any forensic evidence.

Footage from nearby CCTV cameras has also been checked for any potential clues.

One of the men is described as being about 170cm tall with a solid build and short, dark hair.

The second is described as being about 163cm tall with a slim build, with blond, shoulder-length hair and a beard.

He was believed to have been wearing a fluorescent cap.

At a press conference on Wednesday afternoon detective senior constable Chris Forrest said the woman had been to an event nearby before she was attacked.

He said the woman and some people who had stopped to help her were now assisting police with the investigation.

“She’s managed to scream out and fight both males off and she’s been rendered assistance by passers-by,” Det. Sen. Const. Forrest said.

“At this moment in time we are still working with the victim and gathering her movements, but there is limited CCTV in the area and that’s why we are appealing to members of the public for any dash-cam or any witnesses.

“The woman ... is understandably traumatised but she is recovering and she is assisting police with the investigation.”

Detectives - who returned to the scene of the attack on Wednesday afternoon - are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time between 9:40pm and 10:20pm and may have witnessed two men acting suspiciously to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at crimestopperswa.com.au
