Motorists are being warned to expect delays across Perth after a string of crashes and breakdowns caused congestion on several major routes during Tuesday’s peak-hour commute.

The latest incident is on Tonkin Highway northbound in Gosnells where a crash after Albany Highway has forced a lane closure and caused heavy traffic on approach.

Drivers are also facing delays in Applecross after a truck breakdown on Canning Highway eastbound at Ardross Street reduced traffic to a single lane.

Earlier, a crash at Leach Highway in Brentwood reduced Kwinana Freeway northbound to a single lane, with incident response crews and towing services called to the scene.

Several motorists were seen standing outside their vehicles as traffic banked up past Farrington Road and South Street.

Although that crash has since been cleared, traffic remains heavy as congestion eases.

A second crash northbound before Leach Highway in Bateman also caused delays after the right lane was closed by incident response crews.

It has since been cleared and traffic is flowing through the area.

Further north, a crash on the southbound entry from Reid Highway onto Tonkin Highway at Beechboro left vehicles stranded in the left emergency lane, with motorists urged to slow down and drive with caution.

Meanwhile, a vehicle breakdown on Kwinana Freeway southbound before Russell Road in Atwell is not causing major delays but drivers have been reminded to take care as the vehicle is stopped on a bend.

Motorists are being urged to allow extra travel time and remain alert as traffic conditions continue to improve across the network.
