Multiple crashes across Perth caused peak-hour traffic chaos for commuters on Thursday afternoon.

A collision between a truck and three cars on Tonkin Highway southbound reduced the road to a single lane at Great Eastern Highway in Redcliffe about 4.30pm.

Five St John WA vehicles were dispatched to the scene and fuel was spilled across the road.

A woman in her 50s was taken to Royal Perth Hospital under normal road conditions.

Video from the scene showed cars stopped in the far left lane and the far right lane.

The crash caused major congestion in the area and motorists were urged to exercise extreme caution. The crash was cleared just before 6pm but Main Roads WA advised traffic remained heavy on approach.

Another crash on Guildford Road in Mount Lawley has caused heavy traffic in the area.

The crash which happened just before 4pm forced the closure of the eastbound road just after First Avenue. The road was re-opened at 4.30pm.
