A minor crash early on Tuesday morning has brought commuters to a standstill on Mitchell Freeway in Perth’s north.

The incident happened shortly before 6am near Warwick and has caused the southbound right lane of the freeway to be blocked, creating peak-hour traffic congestion.

Traffic is backed up from Warwick Road all the way back to Ocean Reef Road in Woodvale.

Tow truck drivers are on the scene clearing the accident.

Maid Roads WA has urged drivers to exercise extreme caution as they navigate the congestion.
