An arts group that aims to explore all forms of artwork has celebrated its 50th anniversary.
Since the formation of the Rockingham Visual Arts Society in 1976, members have created and shared almost every type of art and craft, from painting to sculpture, spinning, knitting and crochet, pottery, papercraft, quilting, jewellery making to printmaking.
An exhibition of works around the theme of gold was held last month to celebrate the society’s golden anniversary.

It was opened at the Rockingham Arts Centre on July 22, and attended by Rockingham mayor Lorna Buchan, Rockingham MLA Magenta Marshall, representatives from local art groups and community supporters.
The exhibition was supported by the City of Rockingham and featured artworks that explored gold in many forms and media, including sculpture and jewellery.
Long-time members talked about the society’s beginnings in 1976, sharing stories of early workshops, exhibitions, and the friendships formed along the way.
The Rockingham Visual Arts Society meets in a historic building that was originally part of Baldivis Primary School, on the corner of Baldivis Road and Fifty Road, Baldivis.
