The Rockingham Flames have announced star Mehryn Kraker will be returning for a second season with the club.

Kraker signed to the Flames last year, leading the team to the NBL1 West finals for 2022.

In the first round clash with Mandurah Magic last season, Kraker scored 37 points and maintained an average of 23 points, five assists and 3.8 rebounds for the season.

When asked about her return to the Flames, Kraker — who has not yet arrived in Perth — said she was hoping to build on the success of last year.

“We’d like to compete for a championship but also to build on the culture that is Rockingham basketball. Play together, have a family atmosphere and win,” she said.

“I’m really excited to join the new squad (and) see where our identity lies, what our strengths are.”

Kraker said she was looking forward to working with the coaches and building a championship team for the 2023 season.

The NBL1 West season kicked off with the Flames taking on the Willetton Tigers last Friday.

It was a close game between the Tigers and Flames, with the Flames securing the night’s first win 66-57.

All eyes were then on Rockingham Flames champion men’s team, who defeated the Tigers 89-80.

The Flames continued to bring the heat on Saturday night’s clash with the Joondalup Wolves, 120-107.

The Flames women came close to securing a second win but the Wolves secured the win 87-77.

Both teams will take on the Cockburn Cougars at Wally Hagan Stadium on April 6.
