Wellard pair charged after raid of homes

A man and woman from Wellard faced court on Thursday on a string of drug and weapon charges after Rockingham detectives searched homes in Bertram and Wellard last week.

Rockingham detectives allegedly located and seized 26g of methylamphetamine, molotov cocktails, knuckledusters, handguns, ammunition and drug paraphernalia during the search of the Bertram home and a connected Wellard residence on Wednesday, September 19. Detectives also executed a search warrant on the same Bertram home on August 10 where it is alleged they seized more than $70,000 in cash and about 33g of methylamphetamine.

Michael Pasquale Tomizzi, who allegedly moved to the Wellard property after his Bertram home was raided last week, was back before Rockingham Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, facing 10 drug and weapon-related offences.

The 26-year-old was charged with having ready access to weapons and illegal drugs, making or possessing explosives under suspicious circumstances, possession of a firearm with circumstances of aggravation, possession of a controlled weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a prohibited drug with intent to sell or supply, possession of stolen property and possession of firearms/ammunition without a licence.

A 31-year-old woman, who also lives at the Wellard property, was charged with nine offences.

Tahnee Jade Kalalo was charged with having ready access to weapons and illegal drugs, possession of a firearm with circumstances of aggravation, possession of a controlled weapon, two counts of prohibited drugs including cocaine, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a prohibited drug with intent to sell or supply and possession of firearm/ammunition without a licence.

However, Ms Kalalo claimed not to know about the drugs and weapons allegedly found in her home. When questioned about a tick list of names and numbers containing money sums in the thousands located on her phone, the mother-of-three told the court she was not a “drug dealer” and the messages had been “misread”.

The pair were not required to enter a plea and refused bail.

They were remanded in custody. Mr Tomizzi will reappear via video link on October 11, while Ms Kalalo will reappear in Rockingham Magistrate’s Court on Friday, September 28.
