WA supermarkets facing bread shortages after Tip Top factory fire in Canning Vale

A fire inside a Canning Vale industrial bread bakery has led to a shortage of bread on supermarket shelves across the State.
A blaze erupted in the Tip Top Bakeries’ ceiling above one of the bread manufacturing lines just before 12.30am on Wednesday, leaving the facility operating at reduced capacity.
Bread has been transported from South Australia daily to meet demand.
“We will also be transporting bread to Western Australia from our South Australian bakery,” a Tip Top spokesman said after the fire.
“We do anticipate some short-term impact to bread availability over the coming days and apologise for any inconvenience while we work to safely resume our operations.

“We are proud of how well our people responded to this unfortunate incident and thankful for the outstanding support of local fire emergency services.”
A Woolworths spokeswoman said WA stores were experiencing supply shortages on “selected packaged bread brands” due to the fire.
“Whilst we may not have your favourite brand on shelf at the moment, we’re in good supply of other bread brands and products alongside bread from our own bakery section,” she said.
“We expect to see supply return as close to normal as we transition throughout the week and we thank customers for their patience during this time.”
