Painstaking project highlights sacrifice

Comet Bay College students have honoured the sacrifices and achievements of the West Australian men who served in the Gallipoli campaign by making replica Word War I identity discs and suspending them from the roof of the school’s foyer.

The names and service numbers of 1023 men, who enlisted, served and died in battle or from injury, have been hand-written on the discs as part of students’ research projects.

While Comet Bay College will hold its Anzac Day service upon students’ return from school holidays in May, several students last week marched in Golden Bay Primary School’s Anzac service.

Two students marched and performed flag duties, and a trumpeter played the Last Post and Rouse.

Other students embraced the Anzac spirit by attending the service dressed in WWI nurse and light horse uniform from the school’s Military History Museum.

The College will hold its Anzac Day service on Friday, May 3 at 9.30am. All parents and family members of the college community are invited.
