Brumbies edge Dees

Baldivis Brumbies got back to winning ways on Saturday after they defeated Waroona Demons, 15.10 (100) to 15.9 (99) in a thriller at Baldivis Oval.

In a game that ebbed and flowed, both sides showed finals-like grit and determination, with Baldivis twice coming from behind in the final quarter to get a vital win in the race to September.

Baldivis retain their grip on fourth place with the victory.

“They were missing a couple of top-end players but, you know, with Waroona that whoever they bring in, they will go a million miles an hour at the footy and it will be a hard-fought game,” coach Craig Hamersley said.

“For our boys to stand up in that kind of pressure and deliver was pretty good, especially late on.”

Brendan Tingey was a stand-out for the home side as he kicked three goals from the midfield.

Brieghton Shea also continued his return to form after injury, booting four majors while Hayden Lynn also put in a solid display on the wing.

Baldivis’ youngsters also stepped up with Jordan Field and Kurt Verdonk bagging two goals each in the narrow win.

Hamersley said he was expecting a tough outing against South Mandurah this weekend.

“Right from fifth place all the way to first, anyone can win on their day, so we are expecting finals-like intensity all the way up to the finals,” he said.

“You always get sore bodies and niggly injuries from all teams, so it will be interesting to see how teams are shaping.”

Baldivis face South Mandurah this Sunday at Falcon Oval with bounce-down at 2.30pm.
