Fleeces of all types will be on display as part of a pared back wool section at this year’s Albany Agricultural Show, but organisers have aspirations to build it back up to its glory days.

Councillor in charge Jeremy Cullen said wool ranging from coarse cross-bred right through to fine cross-bred, broad merino and fine merino would be on display.

“With the show taking a hit the last few years, we’ve pared it back to just the display, but that’s still quite successful,” he said.

“The people that come through to look will be able to learn a bit about the different wool varieties, where each fleece might be heading and what it might be used for.”

A fleece competition will be also be judged as part of the show.

Judging will start at 10am Thursday and junior class judging will be held from 2pm Friday.

Trophy winners will be announced at 3pm on Saturday.

Mr Cullen said he wanted to see the program return to to its former glory in the coming years.

“I have aspirations of building it back up to a 100 fleece competition, which will be like it was back in the day,” he said.

“We’re still in the early stages of that building it back slowly, which we’ll do over the course of a couple of shows.”
