Hollywood star Liam Hemsworth plans mega $14.6m house build near Byron Bay

Hollywood heart-throb Liam Hemsworth looks set to build out a new $14.6m mega home near Byron Bay, with the Hunger Games star formally submitting his epic architectural dreams to the local council planning department for approval.

The two-storey home, in the Ballina Shire town of Newrybar, would be cut into sloping land with sweeping views over Seven Mile Beach and the blue Pacific Ocean.

Designed by Melbourne-based architecture firm SSdh, the stunning home boasts a massive swimming pool, a workout lawn, garden courtyard, a rumpus room and five bedrooms.

“Both the upper and lower floors of the proposed dwelling are excavated into the sloping site,” the planning report states.

“The excavated design results in a reduced height when viewed from adjoining properties to the west and from public spaces to the east.

“The upper level of the dwelling includes three bedrooms with ensuites, a central kitchen, living and dining area, a rumpus room, terrace and courtyard areas, a swimming pool and vehicle parking areas.

“The lower level includes two bedrooms with ensuites, a gym, sitting room, laundry and a courtyard.

“The architectural plans show that the building is made up three main dwelling components plus a pool terrace that respond to the topography of the site and visual amenity.

“Only the northern module contains two storeys. The central and southern modules and the pool terrace are limited to a single storey excavated into the sloping site.

“Extensive landscaping is proposed in accordance with the attached Landscape Plan to further respond to visual amenity. A key design feature to enhance the appearance of the development is a planted landscape roof over the three dwelling modules and the pool terrace.

“This arrangement is a direct response to the rural setting and the views of the site from neighbouring dwellings.”

An existing access driveway from Old Byron Bay Road will link up to the house.

A breakdown of the home’s costs pegs the swimming pool at $315,000 and the sauna and steam room at $29,000.

A $74,000 fireplace is also booked in to keep Mr Hemsworth and girlfriend Gabriella Brooks warm during the sharp winter months.

SSdh has not yet released full architectural renderings for the build.

If approved, the build would add another Hemsworth compound to the Byron Bay area after brother Chris finished his $20m mega-home at Broken Head in 2021.

Eldest brother Luke also owns a multimillion-dollar beachfront home at Suffolk Park.

Liam first shot to fame on Aussie TV soap Neighbours before kicking things up a gear with a starring role in the massively popular Hunger Games films.

In 2024 he stars in action thriller Land of Bad alongside Aussie acting icon Russell Crowe.
