Among new hotels opening in Singapore this year, two stand out.

Varel Singapore

This hotel, close to Singapore’s arts and entertainment Bras Basah district, is scheduled to open in the first quarter of the year. Design inspiration is drawn from its South-East Asian heritage and the artistic character of the neighbourhood.

It will have 128 guest rooms and many places to eat and drink.

Ninety per cent of the rooms will have a private balcony.

The 344 rooms of what used to be the Hotel Miramar in Havelock Road are undergoing an extensive refurbishment and upgrade.

The dining area, pool and gym are also being transformed as part of its relaunch as the DoubleTree Hilton Singapore Robertson Quay.

In the upper part of the Singapore River, this will be the city’s first DoubleTree hotel.

There will be a pickleball courts and a kids’ club.
