There’s a rumour among readers that the Optinexo Compact Camera being pushed on social media is a scam.
We bought one from optinexo-uk.com, using PayPal, to see it if was a scam. That is how we protect our readers. We wanted to see whether it would turn up, so our readers wouldn’t run the risk.
And the Optinexo was delivered to me by courier within a few days of ordering.
It is real and it is inexpensive at $213, with a 32GB micro SD card included, and express shipping is free.
However, it isn’t a brilliant camera for image quality.
The Optinexo is described by its sellers as a “4K digital compact camera” with a “free upgrade to 5K”, and the 75 megapixel camera’s file sizes are big. Images of my garden are mostly 5MB-7MB.
However, the images are pixelated, of poor colour and “blown out” in some places, with no definition.
It has an 18x zoom which is easy to use (just a long, up-down Telephoto to Wide thumb button on the back), but the more you zoom, the more the image breaks up.

The camera has a “fully articulating 180-degree display” — that is, the screen flips up so you can see it from the front.
This suits “content creators” who are filming themselves.
But the compact camera does have its place — for anyone who wants a camera that is very inexpensive, and easy to use with a “retro design” that makes it feel like, well, every compact camera you have ever used and liked.
The Optinexo is light but comfortable in the hand. The little vertical grip on the front-right side helps this.
I know there are readers who still like to take “snaps” on a camera, and only look at their pictures on the camera’s screen. I know there are readers who want a simple camera with a throwback design.
For $200, this is it.
And it isn’t a scam.
