A major snowstorm has swept across the New South Wales and Victorian Alps this week, blanketing the slopes with fresh snow and breathing new life into resorts after a slow start to the season.
At Perisher, 15cm of natural snowfall was reported over the weekend, with more snow expected over the coming days.
Perisher has already opened the Summit Quad Chair and Hume T-Bar following the storm, with additional lifts and terrain expected to come online as conditions continue to improve.
The timing couldn’t be better for those planning a mid-season escape, with July traditionally one of the busiest months on the slopes.
Resort operators are encouraging visitors to book ahead, with lift tickets purchased in advance available for up to 35 per cent less than gate prices.
While the season got off to a frustratingly slow start thanks to unusually mild weather, this recent snowfall marks a turning point and has finally delivered the kind of classic winter conditions skiers have been hoping for.
With more snow expected, the outlook for the remainder of the school holiday period is considerably brighter.
