After slipping off many travellers’ itineraries in recent years amid conflict in the Middle East, Egypt is making a comeback.

Travel company Travelmarvel says interest in the ancient destination has surged ahead of the September 2026 launch of its purpose-built River Nile ship, Travelmarvel Sirius, with strong early demand reflecting renewed confidence among Australians looking to tick off one of the world’s great bucket-list holidays.

“Egypt has always held a powerful allure for Australians, with a history spanning more than 3000 years that continues to captivate travellers today, and we’re seeing it return to the top of travel wish lists,” APT Travel Group CEO David Cox says.

“The response to Travelmarvel Sirius shows there’s real demand for a seamless, great-value way to experience this extraordinary destination.”

Carrying 124 guests, the ship will sail between Luxor and Aswan as part of Travelmarvel’s Treasures of Egypt and the Nile itinerary, which also includes time in Cairo and visits to many of the country’s famous landmarks, including the Great Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, Karnak Temple, the Valley of the Kings and Queens, Abu Simbel and the much-anticipated Grand Egyptian Museum.

With expert Egyptologists leading shore excursions and much of the logistics taken care of, escorted river cruising is proving an increasingly popular way for Australians to experience Egypt, particularly those seeking a hassle-free introduction to one of the world’s oldest civilisations.

“We’re incredibly proud to not only return to Egypt but to do so with a ship purpose-built to meet what our customers are seeking today immersive experiences, thoughtful design and exceptional value,” Cox says.

“Travelmarvel Sirius reflects our continued focus on innovation, delivering a premium river cruise experience on the Nile River at a price point that resonates with Australian travellers.

“The Nile River is one of the world’s most legendary waterways, and this is a moment where confidence in travel is returning. We’re seeing Australians planning ahead again, and there’s never been a better time to secure a place on what is truly a bucket-list journey.”
