THE OPERA

This world first will see Verona’s principal performers, orchestra, chorus, ballet and 28 containers of scenery, props and costumes brought to Adelaide..

For Franco Zeffirelli brings cinematic brilliance and larger-than-life staging to his interpretation of Verdi’s beloved masterpiece.

A spokesperson for the event explains: “Towering, meticulously crafted sets recreate the grandeur of ancient Egypt.

“Opulent costumes and sweeping ensemble scenes conjure a world of royal courts, sacred temples, and battlefield glory with astonishing detail.

“The stage and scenery at Adelaide Oval will span across 100m of interactive stage architecture, designed to immerse and captivate audiences — an all-encompassing spectacle.”

Aida will be staged in unprecedented scale. The international cast will number more than 400, and there will be 300 local crew.

A 100-piece orchestra will be brought to Adelaide.

There will be 150 singers in the chorus, to deliver Verdi’s powerful score.

The spokesperson says: “This monumental production brings together what is widely considered the most stellar operatic cast ever assembled for an Australian stage, led by a star-studded vocal lineup.”
