Do you have a jacket languishing in the back of your wardrobe from a past ski trip?

Rather than sending your snow gear to landfill, there’s an opportunity to offer some warmth to those who may be sleeping rough this winter.

For the eighth year, Anaconda has partnered with Australian outdoor brand XTM Performance for its Heat The Homeless Campaign.

Community members can donate their pre-loved jackets to Anaconda stores across the country from now until August 31.

The cosy garments will then be distributed to the homeless, adding to the 32,000 jackets already donated to those experiencing hardship since the appeal began in 2016.

Anaconda chief executive Chris Lude says the social impact of the campaign on the homeless community has been significant.

“For those doing it tough on our streets, there is nowhere to escape the harshness of winter, and with the current challenging economic climate, this is an incredibly difficult time for many,” Mr Lude says.

XTM Performance founder Pete Forras says Heat The Homeless has helped divert 27.2 tonnes of clothing from landfill since its inception.

“There are so many high-quality jackets that are purchased for a single ski season before being discarded after only a couple of weeks of wear,” Mr Forras says.
