Port Adelaide reach out to West Coast to play Charlie Dixon in WAFL side as star looks to build match fitness

Port Adelaide star Charlie Dixon almost wore a blue and gold West Coast jumper over the weekend after the Eagles agreed to allow him to play for their WAFL side. The 31-year-old played for the Power’s reserves side last week but with a bye in the SANFL, the club reportedly reached out to West Coast in order to get some match fitness in their key forward as he returns from injury, 7NEWS reported. The club ultimately decided not to risk Dixon, who will instead look to play his second game at lower level next week or push for selection in the AFL side against Geelong. The WAFL also had a general bye over the weekend but West Coast and East Fremantle played their postponed round four match, with the Sharks claiming the win, 22.14 (146) to 3.5 (23). The Eagles were forced to borrow players from their opponents for their clash at New Choice Homes Park on Saturday, with COVID-19 and injuries further hindering their list. East Fremantle duo Sam Emery, 19, and Sam Medland, 24, answered an SOS for the winless Eagles who lost Jed Kemp (COVID-19) and midfielder Logan Young (ankle) on the morning of the game. West Coast went into the game with just three-AFL listed players in last year’s draftees Rhett Bazzo and Brady Hough as well as uncapped midfielder Zane Trew.
