AFLW player ratings: Danielle Laidley ranks every West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Docker after winning weekend

WEST COAST 1. Emma Swanson: 9 Set the tone for the game by limiting Geelong star Georgie Prespakis to just seven disposals in the first half. Was disciplined and selfless, then built a huge game for herself with 19 touches, a goal and three clearances. 2. Ella Roberts: 9 Slick around the clearances and clean with the ball. Penetrated the game with six inside-50s and six score involvements. Had a team-high 25 touches for the game. 3. Bella Lewis: 9 Kicked a great stoppage goal, using her pace and football smarts in the first quarter. Very good around the contest all game, having 20 possessions and seven big tackles. 4. Lucia Painter: 8 Dangerous as a leading forward, kicking 3.1 from 13 disposals. Was free on a few leads and couldn’t complete the marks, but always looked dangerous. 5. Georgie Cleaver: 8 Dominated the backline for her team with 11 intercepts, coming forward to defend many times, impacting the contest, then rebounding from defence. 6. Lauren Wakfer: 8 17 touches from an enormous work rate as a key forward. Was the primary target on many occasions. Strong contested marks, kicked a goal, and her kicking inside 50 was very good. 7. Liz McGrath: 7 Had 17 hitouts, a lot to advantage to her team. Followed up and worked into defence at times. 8. Dana Hooker: 6 Played a true wing role, working hard back to support defence and working forward to cover exits in defence. 9. Jaide Britton: 6 Solid role on a wing, having 13 touches across the game, offensively found space and defensively covered exits to put the ball back inside forward 50. 10. Kellie Gibson: 6 Dynamic with her eight touches as a forward, using the ball well. The standout was a tackle and intercept handball that resulted in a team goal. 11. Roxy Roux: 6 Many tough big body spoils, killing the contest. Won many one-on-one contests and was brutal in defence. 12. Jessica Rentsch: 6 Only five touches offensively, but was strong defensively with strong one-on-one work. Kept the dangerous Aishling Moloney quiet when matched up against her. 13. Charlotte Riggs: 6 Pivotal as a key forward early with strong contesting marks. Had a quiet second term, but was instrumental with a smart knock leading to a team goal. 14. Abbygail Bushby: 5 Ran hard for double possessions and kicked the ball well inside 50. Finished with 11 possessions, two clearances and a goal assist. 15. Charlotte Thomas: 5 Showed amazing courage to go back with the flight into traffic, bouncing up and continuing in the contest. Outstanding. 16. Sanne Bakker: 5 Solid in defence all game, settled with four intercepts. Also rebounded from the backline with two inside-50s. 17. Amy Franklin: 4 Kicked 1.1, from mark and lead. Was a strong target leading up to the wing. Laid three tackles. 18. Zoe Wakfer: 4 Spoilt and won one-on-ones in defence. Had a huge effort in the third quarter with two massive back-to-back tackles, denying Geelong a score. 19. Mikayla Western: 4 A mix of playing wing, supporting defence and spent time forward putting on pressure with four tackles. 20. Kayla Dalgleish: 4 A ‘nearly’ game with nine touches, snapping a point, chasing and tackling. Stuck at it all game. 21. Lucy Boyd: 2 First game for the defender. Didn’t win many possessions but made two tackles in her 49 percent game time. FREMANTLE 1. Gabby Newton: 10 Stunning game. A beast around the contest and clearance, winning the ball or putting pressure on to intercept the ball from the opposition. A team high 28 disposals, nine tackles and six clearances. 2. Mim Strom: 9 Dominated the hitouts with 28, had six clearances and big eight tackles. Worked very hard day to open up the game to give her team an opportunity to win the game. 3. Kiara Bowers: 9 Struggled with the transition game early, but as Fremantle closed the game down, she became very influential in the contested bubble to give the Dockers plenty of territory and opportunity. 4. Emma O’Driscoll: 9 The one defender who could read the transition play and come forward to defend, with big spoils and 11 intercepts for the game. Her game kept the team in touch early on. 5. Hayley Miller: 8 Huge work rate all game, involved in many chains of possession with three inside-50s, eight scoring possessions. Left three very kickable goals on the table which could have been costly in a close game. 6. Aisling McCarthy: 8 Worked hard in the midfield, dealing outside the bubble and winning uncontested possessions, leading her team with 13. Had over 300 metres gained. 7. Jessica Low: 7 Found space and penetration on wing all game. Took a strong contested mark early, and pushed forward to kick a vital goal in the third quarter. Had 15 touches across the game. 8. Tunisha Kikoak: 7 kicked a goal early, was good as the second ruck, with follow-up work at centre bounces. Strong in the contest later in the game as a key forward. Kicked two goals. 9. Megan Kauffman: 6 Perhaps got up a little too high as a half forward early, after than was able to get involved in chains of possessions and became an important cog for the team with 11 touches. 10. Poppy Stockwell: 6 10 clean touches making good decisions with the ball as a small forward. Had two very important goal assists. 11. Sarah Verrier: 5 Quiet in the first half with just two touches. Finished with eight and a crucial goal late in the game from a 50-metre penalty. 12. Ange Stannett: 5 Got caught too high in the mid/defensive area of the ground as a half forward when her team couldn’t stop the transition game. Was able to play deeper once the game was on Fremantle’s terms, and was valuable. 13. Georgie Brisbane: 5 Led and presented as a key forward. The upside was she had three shots on goal, but kicked just 1.2, wasting a few opportunities. 14. Matilda Banfield: 4 Seven clean touches as a small forward. The highlight was her defensive work off the ball in transition. 15. Laura Pugh: 4 Six intercepts in her 75th game. Turned the ball over at times coming out of defence. 16. Gabrielle Biedenweg-Webster: 4 Again started as a defender, and struggled, getting caught with the ball, and giving away free kicks. Moved forward in the second half and made an impact, taking the ball inside 50 and kicking a goal. 17. Philipa Seth: 4 Not her best game. Lost a few one-on-ones early, got caught with the ball and gave away a 50-metre penalty. 18. Dana East: 4 Had 10 touches in the midfield, but struggled with the transition style of game. Didn’t have a clearance for the game. 19. Ash Brazill: 4 Not her usual self in defence, getting caught in between play with the transition game. Trailed in at the contest at times. Was able to come forward to defend when Fremantle got the game on their terms. 20. Indi Strom: 4 Didn’t find a lot of the ball as a defender, was solid with spoils and tackles. Gave away a 50-metre penalty early in the game. 21. Indiana West: 4 Played forward in the first half with no influence. Moved to defence in the second half and influenced with spoils and intercept possessions.
