Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has cut his training short with the Bundesliga champions aiming to have him at his sharpest as he bids to make scoring history in Freiburg.

Lewandowski has 39 league goals this campaign, one short of Gerd Muller's seemingly eternal record of 40 for Bayern way back in 1971-72.

Bayern trained on Thursday for the first time since moving into their 10-day coronavirus quarantine camp to end the season and the club reported that Lewandowski did "a slightly reduced session in order to manage his workload."

Lewandowski would likely have already bettered the record held by the great goalscorer Muller, who's still revered at Bayern as "Der Bomber", but the Pole got injured on international duty in late March.

His tally has come from 27 appearances and includes a hat-trick against Borussia Monchengladbach last time out to move within one of Muller and two of a new record.
