Amid the grey which hung over Perth on Monday, flashes of black, white and pink cut through the drab skies as local football fans appear determined to ensure Calcio Italiano’s finale ends with a bang.

And even with half of the quartet of Italian teams having already bid ‘arrivederci’ to WA, worldwide sporting behomoth Juventus will provide plenty of star power when they close the three-game event against Palermo on Tuesday night.

Italy’s most successful club will take on the historic, rising second division club at HBF Park to bring the week-long Calcio Italiano football festival to a close.

Amid the on-field action which lured a combined 102,635 fans to Optus Stadium for ‘Derby della Madonnina’ (AC Milan vs Inter Milan) last Wednesday and ‘Derby d’Italia’ (Inter Milan vs Juventus) on Saturday, fans have made the most of hosting their sporting heroes in their city.

On Monday, Juventus fans (and a couple donning Palermo pink) descended upon pop-up shop ‘Casa Juventus’ in Northbridge for a public appearance from players Teun Koopmeiners, Randal Kolo Muani, Kerim Alajbegovic, Mattia Perrin, Arkadiusz Milikm, Adin Licina and Arman Durmisi.

Juventus fan Michael Italiano said he was lucky enough to fly to Sydney to watch Juventus on their first trip to Australia in 2014, when club great Alessandro Del Piero lined up against the team he made his name for.

12 years later, Mr Italiano said it was a joy to share the experience with his son Joseph.

“We went when they arrived at Crown, and have been lucky enough because we’re part of the newly formed Juventus Club of WA. We’ve been lucky enough to get some exclusive meet and greets, things that the young boy will remember for life, hopefully,” Mr Italiano said.

“One day, hopefully we can make the trip over there. But for now, this is as good as it gets and fortunate to get two games here, which has been awesome.”

The Italiano family are not the only ones who have lapped up the presence of an assortment of stars, past and present, in Perth over the past week.

More than 50,000 fans assembled for each of the first two games, and those who attended got their money’s worth in the quality on show.

Croatian legend Luka Modric, Portuguese star Rafael Leao, Turkish young gun Kenan Yildiz veteran popular midfielders Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Hakan Calhanoglu and Italian Euro 2021 champions Nicolo Barella and Manuel Locatelli all graced the Optus Stadium turf across the first two games.

So too did Italian dynamo Federico Dimarco (scorer of a goal in each game) French World Cup winner Benjamin Pavard, previous English internationals Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Fikayo Tomori and American World Cup midfielder Weston McKennie.

Off-field, past greats and legends of the four clubs were also expedited to WA.

Italian legends Alessandro Del Piero and Giorgio Chiellini entertained fans and posed for selfies at ‘Casa Juventus’, while Inter greats Christian Vieri and Javier Zanetti mingled with fans in the heart of the city, while the club’s two most-recent trophies loomed proudly nearby.

Meanwhile, when former AC Milan fan favourite Christian Panucci was not serving out pasta from a food truck in Yagan Square, he was playing football with kids at a Telethon event to support the Football Futures Foundation, which provides inclusive and accessible programs.
