Perth Glory coach Adam Griffiths hopeful Adam Taggart and Rhys Bozinovski available for Melbourne trip

Perth Glory coach Adam Griffiths says co-captain Adam Taggart and central midfielder Rhys Bozinovski are in line to return from injury on their upcoming two-game road trip in Melbourne. Glory will fly to Victoria after Christmas for two games in six days against Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory, starting with the former at AAMI Park on Sunday. Hailing the pair of away games as a “big test”, Griffiths said Glory would take an extended squad to Melbourne for the matches against last year’s two grand finalists. After back-to-back 1-0 losses in a row, Griffiths’ team is expected to be boosted by the return of striker Taggart and important midfielder Bozinovski, who both missed the most recent defeat to Adelaide with groin injuries. “We’re looking to get them back into full training, probably by Thursday, and then we’ll see how they progress from there,” Griffiths said. Griffiths was an assistant coach when City smashed Perth 4-0 in round two, which proved to be the death knell of previous head coach David Zdrilic’s tenure. City leads the league for possession per game, and with Glory becoming more ball-dominant under Griffiths, the match figures to be an interesting test of his methods. But while Griffiths said they would not take a lot out of their first meeting, Perth did need to fix the errors that have plagued them over the past few weeks. “Every game is going to be different, every moment is going to be different, so what we have to do is we have to regroup,” he said. “We have to look at all the positive things that we have done in terms of dominating poor possession, dominating final third entries and things like that, but then we have to step up and improve. “One of the things we will be addressing is how we approach the game, and making sure we’re in the right mindset, tighten up in the areas that we were weaker. “There are still vulnerabilities in our team, so we have to improve on those areas and then double down on the areas we started to work on last week that we hadn’t had time previously to work on.” Perth sit 10th, two points off the foot of the table heading into the clash with City, but Griffiths said he was not too worried about league position at this early stage of the season. “Every single game in the A-League is so competitive at the moment, it’s very tight. You string two or three wins together, and you bounce straight back up into that top six quite easily. “That’s the challenge for these next two games, is that we go away to Melbourne and we pick up points.”
