West Coast star Jake Waterman admits he is going to be starstruck as he prepares to mingle with sporting royalty trackside at Ascot racecourse on Saturday.

Waterman and Fremantle defender Jordan Clark are two of several local athletes from a range of sports including rugby, cricket and boxing who will headline Sporting Legends Day.

Sports fans will be able to snap selfies and grab autographs while “legend spotting”. There will also be competitions and merchandise giveaways throughout the day.

Waterman will be joined by teammates Liam Baker and Jack Graham as well as Eagles coach Andrew McQualter, Norm Smith medallist Luke Shuey and club greats John Worsfold and Andrew Embley.

Clark and teammate Pat Voss will represent the Dockers, while Matt Hodgson, Nic White, Kurtley Beale (Western Force), former Australian cricket captain Kim Hughes and WA boxing legend Danny Green will also be part of the festivities.

“I’ll probably be a bit starstruck around Danny Green,” Waterman told The West Australian.

“There’s a wide variety of athletes who have represented this State for a long time, some of them I’ve met before and have had a lot to do with and some I’ve never met before in my life.

“It will be good to say g’day and pick the brains of a few of WA’s finest in the sporting realm.

“Hopefully, we see the fans come out and appreciate all the different sportspeople that WA has.”

Clark is an avid racing fan and has recently joined several Dockers teammates in buying into a racehorse.

“I come down every summer and hang around with a few mates and watch a few horses,” Clark said.

“I don’t have any that are going around at the moment. A few of us Freo boys have one that has run over east. It had its first run throughout the week and went all right.

“Its name is Ocean Chill. Not the most exciting name but we will find out soon if it’s any good or not.”
