AFL fans will get a rare behind-the-scenes look into the lead-up and outcome of arguably the biggest moment of GWS captain Stephen Coniglio’s career through a new Amazon Prime docu-series.

Coniglio is one of the big names of the sport featured in ‘Making Their Mark’, a seven-part series set to drop on the streaming platform on March 12.

The 27-year-old had a tough first season as the Giants’ skipper on the field last year, leading to him being axed from the team for their round 17 clash against Melbourne.

Coniglio averaged just 21 touches in 2020, his lowest output since 2013, as the Giants went from grand finalists to missing the finals in the COVID-19 affected season.

The Swan District-product’s form and eventual dropping was one of the bigger stories of the season and the docu-series trailer shows the midfielder having an emotional conversation with coach Leon Cameron, as they discuss his axing after their shock loss 12-point loss to eventual wooden-spooners Adelaide in round 16 at Adelaide Oval.

“This is a really, really hard decision. I’m not going to play you this week,” Cameron can be heard saying in the documentary.

In an interview as part of the documentary, a clearly emotional Coniglio reflects on the decision and its impact on him.

“Where do I go from here? I’ve just been dropped from the team,” he said.

Coniglio was recalled the next week, finishing with 23 disposals and three clearances in another loss, this time to St Kilda.

Making Their Mark also follows West Coast ruckman Nic Naitanui, Gold Coast coach Stuart Dew, Carlton forward Eddie Betts, Adelaide captain Rory Sloane and the senior leaders at Richmond including coach Damien Hardwick.

Naitanui said the film would give an insight into players’ personalities away from what the average fan sees on the field on game day.
