Fremantle are set to run out in front of a record crowd when they make their finals return against Gold Coast next week.

Tickets for the elimination final next Saturday went on sale on Friday and were completely “exhausted” just hours later, Optus Stadium a sellout.

AFL House released an X post confirming the news.

“Tickets for the Week One Toyota AFL Finals Series match, Fremantle vs Gold Coast SUNS, at Optus Stadium are now exhausted. Should further tickets become available, they will be released via Ticketmaster on a date to be confirmed,” it read.

There is a chance a small amount of further tickets will be released next week while limited premium hospitality packages are still available.

Fremantle’s last home final against Western Bulldogs in 2022 drew 58,982 fans, the largest home crowd they have played in front of, but the purple army will be keen to make a run at the record as their beloved side makes just its second finals appearance in the past decade.

The largest AFL crowd at Optus Stadium was recorded during the 2021 grand final between Melbourne and the Bulldogs at 61,118.

A West Coast preliminary final against Melbourne in 2018 is the largest crowd a WA team has drawn at their home stadium, with 59,608.

Fremantle stormed into September action off the back of 12 wins in 14 weeks.

However, they were forced into a final-round shootout with the Dogs at Marvel Stadium after a disappointing defeat to Brisbane at home in round 23.

When it mattered most, the Dockers produced one of their great victories in Melbourne, an eight-goal burst through the second and third quarter, condemning the home side to a 15-point defeat and eventually costing them a finals berth.

The elimination final will also be retiring dual Brownlow medallist and Fremantle great Nat Fyfe’s final game in Western Australia.
