Fremantle Dockers forward Pat Voss fined for dropping West Coast Eagle Harley Reid off the ball
Fremantle forward Pat Voss has been handed a fine for dropping Harley Reid behind the play in a fiery opening to Saturday’s western derby.
Voss started the angst before the ball had even been bounced, hassling and bumping the rising West Coast star on his way to his position for the start of the match.
It was a signal of intent from the burgeoning cult hero, who came into the game off the back of a career-high six goals at the MCG in the shock win over Collingwood.
The pair came together a number of times in the first quarter of the Dockers’ 49-point win, but the AFL deemed Voss crossed the line in one incident.
Reid was jogging toward a stoppage as a ball-up was about to take place when he copped a bruising bump from Voss, with the forward making his presence felt on the blindsided Eagle.
The 20-year-old was left floored before gingerly rising to his feet to accept the free kick.
The match review officer handed down a $3750 fine after classifying the heavy bump as rough conduct and grading it intentional and low impact body contact.
Earlier in the season, Voss missed three games for a high hit, deemed a strike, that broke Tiger Nick Vlastuin’s nose during Gather Round.
The spiteful western derby blow ended up being the least of Reid’s issues as his game was ended prematurely by an ankle injury in the fourth term.
The young gun is set for scans with fears his season could be over with a syndesmosis injury.
