Little-known Aussie freestyler Shayna Jack is the latest swimmer caught up in the doping scandal plaguing the World Championships, but most Australians would be asking: who is she?

Earlier this week many Australians were applauding the stance of Mack Horton for refusing to stand on the podium alongside drug cheat Sun Yang.

But now, one of our own swimmers has reportedly tested positive to a banned substance, and sent home from the Korea titles.

The 20-year-old mysteriously departed the competition more than 10 days ago citing “personal reasons”, before admitting she had “unknowingly” tested positive to a banned substance.

Jack began swimming when she was two years old and is now one of the country’s rising stars in the pool.

She is also a rising star on social media and quasi-Instagram influencer plugging a variety of products to her thousands of followers.

She would have competed in the 4x100m and the 4x200m freestyle relay teams, which both won gold, had she not been forced to withdraw from the meet.

The relatively unknown swimmer is from Queensland but has trained alongside Australian swimming royalty, namely the Campbell sisters.

At last year’s Commonwealth Games she not only took home Gold in the 4x100m Relay, but also helped to break a World Record, doing so alongside the Campbell sisters and Emma McKeon.

But she has had trials and tribulations outside the poll, battling an infection, a virus akin to the energy-sapping glandular fever, which affected her ability to train hard for extended periods of time, for two years from 2016.

But this has not held her back, she is studying a business degree and loves horse riding, according to a Swimming Australia biography.

Like all post-millennials she is prolific poster on social media user, posting hundreds of photos on Instagram for her 15,000 followers.

Posting photos alongside her idol Libby Trickett, she also appears to be close to WA swimmer Brianna Throssell, with the pair recently in Far North Queensland as part of their roles as ambassadors for Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef.

She appears a care-free young woman dedicated to her sport, but also enjoying time with her boyfriend, friends and travelling.

But she is also a savvy business woman tagging various brands including car companies, beauty salons, fashion labels and a zoo.

In April she even spruiked a discount for the online mattress Koala, urging her followers to use the code ‘MATESWITHSHAYNAJACK’ to be able to get 10 per cent off products.

She has posted photos volunteering at the RSPCA, at McDonalds on McHappy Day and enjoying a range of social events including regional horse races.

Well travelled Jack has holidayed in sun-soaked locations over the past few years, she has travelled to Hawaii, Vanuatu and Mexico.

Unexpectedly, she used Instagram to defend herself after news broke of her positive test.

In it, she writes that “they say a picture is worth a thousand words, in this case a picture can not describe the amount of pain and vulnerability I am feeling right now”.

“It is with great sadness and heartache that I had to leave due to allegations of having a prohibited substance in my system. I did NOT take this substance knowingly.”

Jack said that she would never intentionally take a banned substance that would “disrespect my sport and jeopardise my career”.
