Langer, Lanning join new-look Manchester Super Giants

Manchester Originals have been renamed Manchester Super Giants in The Hundred with Justin Langer and Matthew Mott announced as the coaches of the men's and women's teams respectively and Meg Lanning also linking with the Old Trafford set-up.

Langer, the former Australia batter and coach, succeeds compatriot Simon Katich, with the Super Giants retaining Jos Buttler, Heinrich Klaasen and Noor Ahmed and signing spinner Liam Dawson from London Spirit.

Langer has coached Lucknow Super Giants since 2023 and led London Spirit last year.

Mott, a former England head coach who stepped down in 2024, previously led the all-conquering Australian women's side, and will work alongside Sophie Ecclestone after her retention, while former Australia captain Lanning and Smriti Mandhana have been signed.

Lanning arrives after playing the last two seasons at Oval Invincibles and London Spirit.

The renaming of the Emirates Old Trafford-based franchise follows RPSG Group purchasing a 70 per cent stake last year.

The Indian conglomerate already own Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League and Durban Super Giants in South Africa's SA20.

Under their previous name, Manchester failed to secure a Hundred title in their first five seasons, although the men's side were beaten finalists in 2022 and 2023.

The team's badge has also been overhauled, incorporating the head of an elephant.
