Commonwealth Games 2022: Australia, England netball semifinal delayed by broken goalpost

The Diamonds’ blockbuster semi-final against England has been delayed in extraordinary circumstances.

The heavyweight match between the Diamonds and the English Roses was off to a red-hot start but came to a screeching halt just three and a half minutes into the opening quarter when goal defence Layla Guscoth slammed into the goal post as she put the pressure on Diamonds shooter Gretel Bueta.

After referees brought the match to a stop to allow officials to replace the tilted goal post, Guscoth shared laughs with teammates until the crowd roared when players were able to return to action.

The Diamonds will be making their bid to avenge the heartbreaking 52-51 loss to England from the 2018 Gold Coast Games in their quest for Commonwealth gold.

West Australian defender Courtney Bruce started on the court against England Jo Harten, with West Coast Fever teammate Sunday Aryang on the bench.

The winner of the massive semifinal will take on Jamaica in the gold medal match after West Coast Fever goalshooter Jhaniele Fowler captained her side to victory over New Zealand 67-51,
