Levi Ashcroft recounts his boyhood dream of winning AFL premiership alongside brother Will at Brisbane Lions

Brisbane young gun Levi Ashcroft has declared winning a premiership for the Lions with his brother Will is the culmination of his lifelong dream, while paying tribute to the love he received from losing Geelong coach Chris Scott after the match. Ashcroft famously jumped the fence at the end of last year’s grand final to celebrate with Will after he won his first Norm Smith Medal Now he’s got a medal of his own after a brilliant debut season and an impressive grand final where he won 17 possessions and kicked one goal. The midfielder’s dad Marcus won three premierships with the Lions and Levi said he’d grown up wanting to follow in his footsteps. “We have such a rich history of father-sons at this club. I’m definitely very proud to be a part of that,” Levi said. “To be able to follow in dad’s footsteps and win a premiership in my first year is a dream come true. To do it with the Lions straight away is what every kid dreams of. It’s what I dreamed of as a kid – playing with Will as a father-son. Its definitely a special moment. “I was there with him with the lows. They’re not so fun. He definitely deserves everything that comes with what he’s doing in footy. It’s incredible. He’s playing some amazing footy. I’m really proud of what he’s been doing. “It’s insane to think I was just here 12 months ago celebrating the other premiership. It’s crazy.” Being the son of an ex-Brisbane star meant Levi had strong relationships with his dad’s teammates. Cats coach Chris Scott is one of Marcus’ best friends and put his own devastation aside to enter the Lions’ celebrations to congratulate both Levi and Will. Levi was full of praise for Scott, saying the family’s relationship with both Chris and his twin brother Brad was a lot deeper than what occurs on the footy field. “We’ve got a great history with the Scott brothers. They are some of dad’s best mates,” Levi said. “I look up to them immensely. I’m so proud of what he did this year. He’s sort of like a godfather figure. “Both of them are to us. It was really nice to see him after the game. It was really nice to see him after the game. “We have a huge relationship with them. There’s definitely a bit of love with the Scotts and what they do. They’re such great people.”
