Fremantle’s opening 2021 AFLW game against GWS today will the last big event in WA before the state goes into a five-day lockdown.

More than 1000 people had walked through the gates of Fremantle Oval by the time Premier Mark McGowan revealed the Perth metro, Peel and South West regions will be in lockdown from 6pm tonight until 6pm on Friday.

It comes after a man in his 20s, who is a security guard at a quarantine hotel in the Perth CBD, tested positive for COVID, likely the highly contagious UK strain.

GWS are scheduled to fly back to South Australia with Adelaide, who yesterday played in front of almost 2000 people against West Coast at Mineral Resources Park, before playing their round two games at Norwood against the Eagles.

More to come.
