Justin Longmuir’s heartbreaking reaction to the Dockers’ devastating loss was captured on camera, with viewers saying they don’t think they’ve seen a more “broken man”.

As Brisbane kicked the winning goal, Longmuir — who has coached Fremantle for nearly seven years — put his head in his hands and shook his head before walking away with tears in his eyes.

Fans took to social media over the sad scenes, with one person saying “Don’t think you’ll see a more broken man than Justin Longmuir. He looks utterly shattered”.

Following the final siren, Brisbane coach Chris Fagan — who has led the Lions to three consecutive premierships — ran straight over to Longmuir to show his respect, and shake his hand in a moment that has been described as “pure class” on social media.

And in a bombshell admission during his speech, Fagan said the Dockers should have won.

“If I was being completely honest, you guys probably deserved to win the game today,” Fagan said.

“But my boys, they’ve got a stack of heart and they know how to fight there way right to the end.”

Brisbane Lions produced an epic grand final comeback, erasing Fremantle’s 17-point lead with only four minutes remaining to win the grand final by seven points.

Speaking after the game, shattered Dockers captain Alex Pearce pledged his side will “fight and be back here again”.

Holding back tears as he spoke in the middle of the MCG, Pearce — who made his way onto the stage with the aid of crutches after suffering an Achilles injury in the third term — paid tribute to his teammates and the club’s fans.

“To my boys, I’m so proud of every one of you. The way you fought today, the way we fought this year, the people that you are, and I know that we’ll be back,” Pearce said.

“We’ve been supported by thousands and thousands of fans throughout this season and this week in particular has been really special. We’re so grateful for all of your support.

“If there’s one thing I know about this group and this club, we won’t give up and we’ll fight and be back here again.”
