Fremantle Dockers forward Pat Voss slammed by St Kilda legend Nick Riewoldt for taunting Harrison Petty

St Kilda legend Nick Riewoldt has taken aim at Pat Voss, saying the Fremantle forward had “embarrassed himself” with his taunting of Melbourne’s Harrison Petty. A major flashpoint in the Dockers’ 48-point victory on Saturday came at quarter-time, when Voss repeatedly rubbed Petty on the head and made a crying gesture what appeared to be a reference to an exchange between the Demons defender and Brisbane’s Dayne Zorko in 2022 which left the him in tears. Voss was fined $1500 for misconduct by the match review officer on Sunday, which can be reduced to $1000 with an early guilty plea. Speaking on Triple M’s Mick in the Morning, Riewoldt said the penalty should have been much harsher. “I hate this . . . it’s fake tough guy stuff,” Riewoldt said. “He’s a pretty hard-at-it guy on the field, so I don’t know why he feels he has to resort to this. It’s taunting. He’s been fined a thousand bucks, whoop-de-do! The AFL have got to come down and stamp this out. “He embarrassed himself, he would be regretting it. “I would be shocked if the leadership at Fremantle didn’t get to him and say, ‘Mate, you embarrassed yourself.’ We don’t want that sort of taunting in the game. It’s rubbish, it’s petty — pardon the pun.” After the game, Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir said he did not see the incident but praised Voss for what he brought to the Dockers. “We understand he treads a fine line at times, and he’s got to manage that,” Longmuir said. “But he just brings so much energy to the group that we all buzz off it. “He plays with great energy. He tries to help his teammates out who are getting tagged. He goes after target players for us or players we want to try and negate from the opposition. So he does a lot right in that sense.”
