Blake Acres may have arrived at the Dockers as part of a last minute Bradley Hill trade deal, but the midfielder is standing tall for Fremantle.

Since returning to the Dockers line up in round 15, Acres has averaged almost 25 disposals a game.

Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir said Acres, a West Perth product, had shown potential in the pre-season and was now back to his best after an injury interrupted 2020.

“Since he’s gone out of the team for four or five weeks, he’s worked really hard on his fitness, really hard on his running, really hard on his contest work and really hard on his role,” Longmuir said.

“In the three weeks since he’s been back in the team have been outstanding.

“He’s executing his role, but that role is really helping the team perform. Full credit to him.”

Acres has played six games in 2020 since crossing from St Kilda, along with a first and future second round draft pick, for Bradley Hill.

And he impressed the Freo faithful almost immediately with a 31-disposal game against Carlton in the Marsh Community Series.

But a hamstring injury cruelled his start to 2020 and he remained off the pace when he returned for the Dockers before a calf injury saw him sidelined for five weeks.

In Saturday’s win over North Melbourne, Acres finished with an equal game-high 24 touches, nine marks and six inside 50s playing on the wing.
