AFL State of Origin: Western Australian captain Patrick Cripps arrives in Perth ahead of blockbuster clash

Western Australian captain Patrick Cripps has touched down in Perth ahead of AFL State of Origin and had a warning for Victoria’s star-stuffed side. Cripps landed on Tuesday evening ahead of the bulk of interstate players, who are expected to arrive tomorrow, as the team assembles ahead of Saturday’s clash. “The boys will be cracking in, a few of us get over tonight and a few tomorrow as well, so we’re looking forward to all getting together,” he said. Echoing the sentiments shared by West Coast forward Jake Waterman, Cripps said he expects everyone to go “flat out”, confirming he would not be on any minutes restrictions for the match. “It will be flat out ready to go, so I’m going to have a red hot crack, and I’m sure the other boys will as well,” he said. “I think everyone at the game or watching at home will enjoy the contest.” WA are likely going to need a vintage performance from the two-time Brownlow Medallist if they have any hopes of causing an upset, currently sitting as $3.10 outsiders. Victoria has an embarrassment of riches at their disposal with suggestions superstar Marcus Bontempelli could be forced up the ground to fit him in, given the depth of their on-ball brigade. However, Cripps believes this could work against them, with his squad expected to fulfil more familiar roles. “I think we’ve got a team that’s very well suited; everyone gets to play in their position,” he said. “Their team is star-studded, but they’ve got a lot of midfielfers so that will either be an advantage for them or a disadvantage, so we’ll see how it plays out.” Cripps also said the homecrowd could be an advantage and even shouted out The West Australian for helping generate hype ahead of the clash. “I think it’s great for the state, I’ve been chatting to the family over here, and it’s been front and back page all week, so it’s good for WA footy and for AFL in general to have Origin back,” he said.
