AFL Draft 2025: Claremont forward Cody Curtin kicks five as he prepares for under-18 championship campaign

Top West Australian prospect Cody Curtin has enhanced his reputation, booting five goals against a senior side in the WA under-18 championships warm-up game at the weekend. Exclusive statistics obtained by The West Australian can reveal the Claremont big-man kicked 5.1 from 14 disposals and seven marks in their 14.14 (98) to 6.4 (40) win over West Perth’s reserves on Saturday. Curtin — the brother of Adelaide forward and wingman Dan — is considered a strong chance to go in the first round of this year’s draft. The 18-year-old played as a key defender in the championships as a bottom-ager last year but finished the year in the Tigers’ colts side as a forward where he was pivotal in their premiership including two bags of six goals in the finals. Curtin is seen as AFL ready at 200cm and 98kg and is likely to play league football at Claremont after the under-18 championships. WA skipper Fred Rodriguez continued his stellar form with a game-high 33 disposals, six clearances and a goal, while impressive West Perth midfielder Sam Swadling’ stocks are rising quickly. Swadling kicked two goals to go with 30 disposals, seven marks and four clearances in a dominant display. West Coast next generation academy prospect Wes Walley could’ve had a day out had he kicked straight, finishing with two goals and three behinds, while Swan Districts midfielder Blake Kelly had five clearances and 23 disposals. Fremantle next generation prospect Toby Whan returned with 24 disposals and two clearances after missing the WAFL under-21 exhibition game with a minor hip complaint. It was WA’s final warm up game as they now prepare to take on Vic Country in their championship opener at Mineral Resources Park on Saturday, June 7.
