Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his new wife Jodie Haydon have been spotted at the airport after they tied the knot at The Lodge in Canberra on Saturday.

The PM is on five days of leave for his honeymoon with speculation that the pair will be travelling somewhere within Australia to further celebrate their nuptials.

Fresh off their “I do’s”, the pair arrived with a smile and their wedding rings as they strolled in with security at Sydney Airport ready to kicked off married life on Monday morning.

Mr Albanese wore blue jeans, a suit shirt and blazer as he carried two large leather brown bags through the departures area, with Jodie following in a casual mustard-coloured light jacket with wide-legged navy pants paired with white ballet flats and red-lipstick.

The duo’s intimate Saturday afternoon ceremony, held on the lawn of The Lodge, made Mr Albanese the first Prime Minister since Federation to get married while in office.

The small privately paid for wedding was attended by a select group of Labor heavyweights, including Penny Wong, Don Farrell, Jim Chalmers, Mark Butler, Katy Gallagher, Tony Burke, and Richard Marles.

Their wedding had been kept so under-wraps that the Canberra florist who unknowingly arranged Jodie’s wedding bouquet only discovering it was for the PM’s wedding after seeing the publicly released photos.

Loulou Moxom told The Canberra Times she had instead believed they were for a “Matthew and Marie”.

Ms Haydon was walked down the aisle by her parents to Ben Folds’ song The Luckiest, while Mr Albanese’s dog Toto acted as ring-bearer.

Their honeymoon on home soil comes after the pair took a seven-day overseas holiday to the remote island of Palau in Micronesia before his Washington meeting in October with US President Donald Trump.

The pair met in 2020 at an event in Melbourne and bonded over their shared love of the South Sydney Rabbitohs NRL team.

The then-opposition leader was speaking at an event and asked if there were any Rabbitohs fans in the audience to which Jodie replied “up the Rabbitohs”.

Mr Albanese later introduced himself before Jodie “slid into his DMs”. The PM then proposed on Valentine’s Day 2024.
