A young dad has been jailed for 40 years in the United Arab Emirates after allegedly being found with half a gram of cocaine on him.

Expat Sam Dorman, 33, had been living in Dubai since 2022, when he moved over from the UK to start a business.

However, hopes of financial prosperity appear now doomed, with the young Brit now looking at staying behind bars until his early 70s.

Originally a barber and tattoo artist from Glossop, Dorman, who has a child, had “got in with the wrong crowd” before UAE Police stung him with the forbidden substance.

The Middle East country has a zero-tolerance policy on drugs, and allegedly caught up with Dorman after busting a person who purchased cocaine off him.

“He got in with the wrong crowd. Sam apparently sold coke to a customer who was pulled over and arrested by police,” a source told The Sun.

“They took his phone and messaged Sam pretending to be the buyer and asked for more. Sam stupidly went and the police were waiting. At this point he was nabbed.”

It is understood that Dorman allegedly had half a gram of a substance on him when police caught up with him.

However, a latter raid of his home uncovered an alleged 28 gram stash.

In his home country, the stash could have a street value of around £2000 ($4000), however, in the UAE where the drug is strictly forbidden, it is believed Dorman could have secured triple that amount.

“He’s got a young daughter in the UK, so to be serving 40 years is really sad,” a source said.

“He won’t be out till he’s in his 70s.”

It is understood that Dorman is currently locked up in Al-Awir Central Prison, infamously known for it’s violence and poor conditions.

“The prison’s a hellhole and Sam’s family are understandably distraught.

“When they spoke to him, it looked like he’d taken a battering. I just hope someone can help him.”

The UK Foreign Office has said it is “supporting a British man detained in Dubai”.
