Ukraine war: Perth’s Ukrainian community sends life-saving medical equipment to frontline

Life-saving medical equipment has been delivered to Ukraine after months of fundraising by Perth’s Ukrainian community.

The large consignment, which includes orthopedic equipment, tourniquets and other medical supplies, was coordinated by WA Biome Medical CEO Terrence Dewar, along with Ukrainian doctors and pharmacists from Perth.

Sydney-based medical equipment company Device Technologies supplied over 70,000 products, which will be able to treat approximately 750 patients requiring urgent medical care.

It is understood the donation is one of the largest to Ukraine by an Australian company.

The supplies were delivered to Ukraine last month and will be used in trauma clinics and hospitals across the country.

The Ukrainian Association of WA and other community members, who had been actively fundraising to support their home country since the start of the invasion on February 24, celebrated the first of several expected deliveries on July 24.

UAWA president Mykola Mowczan praised the effort of all those involved.

“All of the equipment delivered will aid in support for the medical teams performing life changing trauma procedures in Ukrainian hospitals,” he said.
