Perth will be treated to a string of sunny days this week as the city kicks off the countdown to the historic AFL grand final.

Beach weather will make a comeback on Tuesday and Wednesday as the temperature climbs into the high 20s, before returning to cooler conditions when the clouds roll back in for the week’s end.

Grand final day on Saturday, though, is shaping as near perfect, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

A sunny 25C is forecast for the big day — ideal for those lucky enough to be heading to Optus Stadium and for those planning grand final barbecues in the backyard.

he said.

Meanwhile, the mercury will reach a blissful 28C on Wednesday, with only light winds expected.

“(Grand final day) is a pretty nice day. We have offshore winds, and probably not much of a sea breeze. It looks like there is going to be some fairly south-easterly winds at the start of the match,” the Bureau spokesman said.

“Mostly sunny skies and mainly clear in the evening as the game goes on, but it won’t be too cold — close to 20C — as the game finishes.

“Just about perfect conditions for sitting outside,” he said.

Low easterly winds, peaking at 25km/h, will cool down those sitting at Optus Stadium or outside Northbridge Piazza watching the once-in-a-lifetime match unfold.

A lazy Sunday is predicted to start the long-weekend with partly cloudy skies and possible showers, reaching a top of 24C.

It’s too early to predict the weather for the Queen’s Birthday public holiday, according to BOM, but no big storm systems are moving in.

“It’s pretty early days, but it looks OK. Maybe a chance of a shower, but I wouldn’t expect a wash-out,” he said.
